This award winning, traditional Jersey Black Butter 227g is a treat. Traditional Black Butter nights were held after apple harvest each year. A highly communal affair, the mixture of sugar, liquorice, spices and apples was stirred together for 24 hours over an open fire and in between the stirrer’s swigs, generous quantities of cider were added.
La Mare spent two years perfecting this centuries old recipe and locals have rated it as one of the best they have ever tasted!
It won 2 gold stars at the Great Taste Awards 2008.
Spread it over freshly baked bread, scones with cream or on toast. Can also be served with with various pork and chicken dishes.
